We have now been on a few sail trips throughout the US and British Virgin Islands but until now, we've not sailed in The Bahamas.
We head there this coming Saturday for 6 nights aboard a 55" Sail Catamaran. The trip was SUPPOSED to happen in December for my birthday (and I'm not saying the #!), then, we had to reschedule for March, then...we moved it again to April, and here we are: My much awaited, highly anticipated big birthday cruise! FINALLY!
So looking forward to exploring an area via boat that we've not been before. Furthermore, I am so looking forward to traveling since the past year has been CRAZY!😷
My husband and I are traveling there with two of our favorite people on the planet: my brother and sister in law. So excited to reconnect and see some islands we've not seen before.
Bahamas here we come!

On this trip we'll be traveling around the Exumas (See Below):

Side Note:
Since we're technically still in the middle of a pandemic, travel out of the US is different that prior to us ever hearing the term "coronavirus" or "Covid-19." SO, not only do we have to have a negative Covid test prior to leaving our country (US) within 5 days of arrival, we also have to get tested upon arrival in The Bahamas and again within 5 days of departure for entry back into the US. So it's up the nose 3 x for the 4 of us.
BUT...it's going to be SO worth it!
Another new hurdle is that you have to obtain a visa prior to entry where you upload your Covid test results. The site is travel.gov.bs. You have to upload a photo of your passport as well as your test results and then the Bahamian government will get back to you within a day.
Now the good thoughts: what to eat and drink in The Bahamas????
These are native - not sure they are all exactly what I want to eat though? ;0)Popular Foods in The Bahamas:
Conch
Souse (chicken or sheep's tongue)
Guava Duff : sponge cake with guava
Fried or Seared Grouper with Grits
Rum Cake
Peas ‘n’ Rice
Johnnycake - like cornbread
Bahamian Macaroni and Cheese
Bahama Mama - rum drink with coconut rum, pineapple and OJ
Bahamian Hot Patty (basically an empenada)
Other foods that are maybe more delectable include:
*Conch Salad (ceviche)
*Boiled Fish (usually grouper or snapper)
*Bahamian Crawfish (Spiny lobsters)
*Conch Fritters
*Cracked Conch
*Lionfish (white, buttery fish - look for them in tacos)
*Conch Chowder
*Steamed Chicken
*Bahamian Fish Stew
*Baked Crab
DRINKS:
*Goombay Smash: Drink with dark rum, coconut liqueur, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup
*Yellow Bird: Rum, Galliano liqueur, banana liqueur, orange and pineapple juices
*Pirate Republic beer - Nassau's only Craft beer
*Kalik Beer - known as THE beer of The Bahamas.
*Sands Beer - Sands Pink is a popular choice for on the beach, as it has a taste of grapefruit. Best described as full-bodied and smooth.
So the difficult part clearly is decision making. Ahhhh......
And in the past we've sailed in January, February or March, so April is looking much warmer than we've had in the past = PERFECTION:
